Winning A Significant Lunar Contract
A $116.9 million contract from NASA has been given to Intuitive Machines to transport six research and technology payloads to the South Pole of the Moon. This contains a drill suite overseen by the European Space Agency. Additionally, the Surface Exosphere Alterations by Landers (SEAL) instrument will study the chemical effects of lunar landings on the regolith, providing insights into how landing activities might impact nearby samples.
The Fluxgate Magnetometer (MAG) will analyze magnetic fields at the lunar surface, while the Lunar Compact Infrared Imaging System (L-CIRiS) will map surface temperature distributions and explore the Moon’s composition, aiding future lunar resource utilization efforts.

Intuitive Machines is putting the last touches on its second lunar expedition. The finished lander will be delivered to the launch facility in late 2024.
